Foodie Friday | Gabbi’s Head – A lady’s Bene-Pub

Yo yo yo Mia G, it’s been soooooooo long since I saw you 😉

loved our few days together, so nice to spend time with my bezzie. I currently have my Sweet Potato Almond Butter Brownies in the oven, and I remembered the loooovely lunch we had in London on Wednesday.

I love Benefit make up. I can count on one hand the amount of products in my giant make-up bag is not Benefit. Such a massive fan. I actually can’t put into words how much I love this brand and all that it stands for. So where else to have lunch on a sunny afternoon in London? Gabbi’s Head.

Gabbi’s Head is a woman-only* pop up pub by Benefit Cosmetics just off Drury Lane in Covent Garden. Above the Prince of Wales, it’s basically straight ahead of you if you’re coming from Covent Garden tube station. Of course, we couldn’t find it and spent ages walking up and down the road before realising it was right in front of us the whole time. Standard us. Some things never change….

*(I say women-only… I definitely saw some of the male species while I was in there, however they did have the decency to look like they’d been dragged in by their sister/girlfriend/girl pal!!!)

We walked in and were greeted like old friends! Such a lovely welcome! 🙂 Everyone was very happy and smiley. We grabbed a bright pink corner sofa and took a look at the menu. We decided on sharing the BBQ pulled pork nachos. As a cheese lover, a bbq lover and a general nacho lover, this was a no-brainer. The portion size for the two of us was just right and I didn’t feel bloated or uncomfortably full afterwards, which is something that happens fairly often to me. (Damn you, sensitive stomach!) We also thought we’d treat ourselves to a cheeky drink of the Bene-Mojito. These were so delicious and were served in the cutest little jar-like glasses with a handle. Handy for easy holding!

I was hoping to get my eyebrows done, as there were complimentary services being offered: eyebrows, skin-care, makeovers… you name it, it was there! They asked to donate a minimum of £5 for Refuge – a domestic abuse charity. But still! £5 to get your eyebrows done! Bargain!! Unfortunately, there was a queue of girls ahead of me, and there was a half hour wait. On any other day, I would have gladly waited to be pampered and such, but we were on the way to see Wicked so we had to rush off, which was a shame. 😦

There was also plenty of opportunity to buy some of their products if you wished to after having taking advantage of the beauty services there. As well as all of this, you could sit and enjoy the footie (the tennis was on when we visited) and they organise some fabulous-sounding evenings – including stand up comedy and an 80s theme night.

Seriously, I would recommend to anyone who has any free time to pop in and visit. Even if it is just for half an hour, the atmosphere and the service makes it so worth it! I only wish I was up in London again before they disappear (13th of July) to spend some more time here.

Beauty Tuesday | Camden Market

I loooooove Miss Saigon, biased on Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, if you didn’t know?
I am currently packing up my room right now, all of my things are in a massive jumble so I can’t take any photos of the things that I would like to share with you….

So, last week I went to Camden Market. I went for the first time a few months ago and completely fell in love with the place. I went back on Friday and grabbed a couple of bargains.

I needed to get a new wardrobe, and I kept an eye out throughout the stalls. I found a stall with a £5 rail, and grabbed two dresses. Both with the base colour of maroon, but one had multi-coloured flowers on it, and the other had like little polka dots, but mixed in were CATS!! There could be no other dress that was more perfect for me.

I didn’t try them on until I got home, and they both fit really well, so I am soooo happy with my purchases.

A second thing that I bought was a beautiful pair of earrings, which have little birds flying on them. I need more everyday-type earrings, so I saw these and grabbed them.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST
THE FOOD. I am aware that it isn’t a Foodie Friday, but if you go to the market, just take a visit to the street food section. I had a quinoa burger with all of these yummy garnishes.

I’m so sorry for the lack of photos, I’m sure they’ll be posted in time! 🙂

See ya tomorrow,

Music Monday | Miss Saigon

Sorry about the late post, I thought I was doing Tuesday! Oh well.

So last week I went to London with my mum to celebrate her birthday. I bought her tickets to the musical Miss Saigon for Christmas, and I also got  her tickets to go and see the English National Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Albert Hall (more on that tomorrow). But anyway. Miss Saigon!

It was absolutely stunning. In short, it’s a retelling of Madame Butterfly set during the Vietnam War in the 1970s. It’s a beautifully tragic love story written by the Boubil and Schönberg dream-team who brought us Les Misérables. And, on a somewhat controversial note, I much prefer Miss Saigon to Les Mis. I actually don’t really like Les Mis. I find it dull.

I want this song played at my wedding. Lea Salonga’s voice is utterly stunning. You may recognise her, as she was the singing voice for Jasmine and Mulan. The girl who was playing Kim when we saw it a week ago was absolutely amazing, and only 18. She’s singing here at West End Live (the sound is a bit poo)

The music is just so gorgeous and incredibly powerful. I cried like a baby pretty much all the way through. This Is The Hour is my favourite part of the show, it’s absolutely beautiful. Kim’s melody is rock solid as Thuy (her betrothed)’s melody is high and almost panicked, which just heightens the emotion so perfectly. I’d recommend listening to the whole album the way through, as it’s sung through. It’s just stunning, you have to see it. The choreography is so slick, it’s wonderful. The only thing is, there are flashing lights, supposed to be fireworks, so epilepsy sufferers who are triggered by flashing lights should be wary. There was no epilepsy warning at all actually, which was alarming. And don’t go near the upper circle if you suffer from vertigo, as it’s extremely high up, and I felt a bit anxious sitting up there. But it was a wonderful show, which will probably run for a very long time.

See you tomorrow!

Mia 🙂
